At Hansen Textile, sustainability is at the core of our business. For the past 15 years, we have been working with recycled fibers, and today, 49% of the cotton we use comes from recycled cotton, primarily from pre-consumer waste collected from external clothing production.
By using recycled fibers, we significantly reduce the environmental impact of our production process. And, we're proud to say that all of our textiles, including our recycled textiles, are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, ensuring that our final products meet high standards of chemical content.

To ensure transparency, we use the HIGG Index to support our communication and documentation of our product's environmental impact. The HIGG Index is a global platform developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) for textile brands to measure and share their product's environmental impacts through standardized measurement methods.
Hansen Textile uses the HIGG Product Module Tool to calculate the water and carbon savings for our primary products and compare them to similar textile products and materials.
The calculation is made by Hansen Textile and includes a cradle-to-cradle focus, meaning the impact of the entire product life cycle from raw material extraction to its end-of-life. That being said, our main focus and measurements depend on data from the process up to the finished product, while the following process, including use and end-of-life phases, are based on average standard data.
By using the Higg Index, we aim to document and communicate the impact of our primary product, but also to set future goals for further reductions in environmental impacts. Furthermore, the tool helps us guide our customers to make informed choices regarding production methods for dyeing and specific components when purchasing our products.

Responsible materials
We focus on durability and longevity, which is evident in our material selection.
As our focus area is jersey and basic products, it is important for us to ensure that our materials meet our high standards for durability. This helps to reduce the environmental impact and ensure that our products have a long lifespan.
We strive to use materials with the lowest possible environmental impact and aim for durable qualities so our products can be used again and again. We use as many recycled materials as possible in our production, without compromising the quality of the product. If necessary, we add virgin materials to our recycled materials to achieve the desired durability. In this way, our production methods are both sustainable and functional.
Recycled cotton without the use of color, chemistry or water
Pre-consumer recycled cotton: "Pre-consumer" recycled cotton is surplus material from textile production before it reaches consumers. These materials can be leftovers from fabric cutting, surplus material from clothing production, or textile waste from various stages of the production process. Instead of throwing away these materials, they can be recycled and used to produce new products. Pre-consumer recycled cotton is cut down into small fibers, and these fibers can be used to make new threads and fabrics. Recycling these materials reduces the need to produce new materials and reduces waste. No water, dyes or chemicals are used in this process.
Organic cotton
Organic cotton is cotton that is grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, pesticides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This helps to reduce environmental impact and protect biodiversity. Organic cotton also requires less water than conventional cotton and contributes to reducing water consumption in agricultural production.
Responsible Wool
We use responsibly produced wool in the production of socks, basics, and children's clothing. We can offer GOTS certified wool that ensures our and your customers' wool products without harmful chemicals and are mulefree.
Recycled polyester
Recycled polyester is a type of polyester fabric that is made from recycled plastic, such as bottles and packaging. The plastic waste goes through a process where it is turned into small flakes or pellets, which can then be used to make recycled polyester. Recycling contributes to reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills and oceans. It also requires less energy and resources to produce recycled polyester than to produce new polyester from crude oil.

Ecovero viscose
ECOVERO™ viscose is produced in a more sustainable way. The wood fibers used in ECOVERO™ from Lenzing are certified sustainable. The wood mass for ECOVERO™ can come from FSC or PEFC certified forestry and is produced in a closed system. Lenzing has documented that they produce ECOVERO™ materials with up to 50% less water and energy consumption than conventional viscose is produced.

Our strong partnership with our main suppliers in Istanbul, Turkey, ensures close monitoring of the production facility and working environment, followed by daily communication and monthly visits. Through this partnership, we collaborate on recycling innovations and challenge each other to do better.

Amfori BSCI is an international membership organization that brings together retailers, importers, national associations, and brands to monitor and improve the social and legal frameworks of trade and to support social compliance within global supply chains. As a member, Hansen Textile follows amfori BSCI Code of Conduct's 11 principles, ranging from fair remuneration to no child labor.
